The Mandean Book Of John The Baptist Full Translation, the life & teachings of the prophet Yahya peace be upon him

THE OPENING CHAPTER

In the name of the living, the great, eternal, distinguished God in the realms of light, the rich, and the most exalted, over all works. We pray to you that you may grant us safety, integrity, strength, stability, and guidance of the mind, and we beg you to hear our prayer and forgive our sins, O Lord of light and giver of life.

THE SECOND CHAPTER

At the entrance to the realm, the Truth stands and asks.

In the name of the great living God. Praise be to his great and sublime light.

At the entrance to the world stands the truth, asking and answering questions about this world.

(Ethra means Angel, Ethri means Angels)

He said, "What is the diameter of the earth?"How far is the earth from the dome of the sky? And what was Adam created from? And what was his wife, Eve, created from? Where did this white sesame oil come from? What water did they come with—this living, running water? How many thousands of the Ethri belong to the Yucimir family? How many thousands of the Ethri belong to the Shar family? How many thousands of the Ethri belong to the Firon family? Who caused the great schism that will not stop until the end of the world? Who violated the Great Covenant without reforming it?

Who will be the guardian of the earthly world until the end of the world?

What are the limits of the great spirit (Mana Raba Qabera)?

How many thousands of the Ethri are sitting to the right of the Great Spirit (Mana Raba Qabera)?

How many thousands of the Ethri are sitting to the left of the Great Spirit?

How many thousands of the Ethri stand before the Great Spirit?

What is the purpose of the three robes that are made of light and splendor?

Who takes the jar of perfume and puts it in front of the Spirit (Mana)?

Who among the Ethri accepts prayers and praises and keeps them in the House of Holy Books?

When the fetus is formed, in which spot does it originate?

When a newborn is born to his mother, what scent does he smell?

Who separates the fetus from the uterus in the abdomen of a pregnant woman at birth?

Abthahel spoke and said to him, "I am telling you the truth, and I will explain it to you."

When the earth was formed, its diameter was twelve thousand leagues, and the distance from the earth to the dome of the sky was twelve thousand leagues.

Adam was created from clay. His wife, Eve, was created from the same substance.

White sesame oil was brought from the world of Yochaber Ziwa. This living-running water was brought from the waters of Paradise.

Twelve thousand of the Ethri belong to the family of Yucemir. And twelve thousand of the Ethri belong to the family of Shar. And twenty-four thousand of the Ethri belong to the Firon family.

It was the angel Jochamen who caused the great schism that will not stop until the end of the world.

The angel Abather is the one who violated the great covenant and was unable to close it, and I Abathahel was made a guardian of the world until the end of the world.

The limits of the throne of the Great Spirit are based on the word of life.

Twelve thousand of the Ethri are seated at the right hand of the Great Spirit.

Twelve thousand of the Ethri are seated on the left of the Great Spirit.

Twelve thousand of the Ethri stand before the Great Spirit.

The three robes that are made of light and splendor, each one of them is explained in its place.

The Ethra Shinglan is the one who takes the perfume jar and places it in front of the spirit. The Ethra Samandriel is the one who receives prayers and praises and records them in the House of Holy Books.

When the fetus is formed, it is born as a sperm in the father's pelvis and is transferred to be completed in the mother's womb. When a newborn is born from his mother's womb, it is perfumed with the scent of life.

The spirit named Zahriel is the one who helps separate the fetus from the womb on the birth bed.

Know  this, May the living God purify you, and may every being that comes to this place be purified.

The nineteenth chapter of the prophet Yahya's book, peace be upon him (John the Baptist)

Prediction of the birth of Prophet Yahya, peace be upon him.

In the name of the great living God. Praise be to his great and sublime light.

A chosen newborn from heaven - a secret revealed in Jerusalem (Al-Quds).

A dream was seen by a priest. Evil confusion has occurred. A disturbance occurred in Jerusalem (Al-Quds).

One day, at dawn, a priest went early to the sanctuary of the Lord. His deceitful lips spoke evil, as he said to the priests. When I lay down at night, I saw a vision. I was neither drowsy nor asleep, and I did not fall asleep that night. I saw a star descending on Enishbi, then a blazing fire rose at the door of Zachariah's house. I saw three lamps. The sun has set, and the lamps are lit. The lamps lit up the House of Meetings, and their smoke headed toward the Temple.

A disturbance occurred in the heavenly bodies, and the earth quaked. A meteor descended on the Jews, and another meteor descended and fell in Jerusalem. I saw the sun at night and the moon shining during the day. When the priests heard that vision, their faces turned pale, and they cast dust on their heads. And Eleazar spoke and said to the priests, "Who among you can interpret dreams to explain to us this dream that you have seen?"

He also said: The priest, Yaqif, the interpreter of dreams, did not express his opinion to us. The priest, Benjamin, is also an interpreter of dreams, but it is not his habit to keep your secrets hidden. As for the priest, Tabyumin, he did not mention anything about the content of the dream.

A sudden voice came from the earth (by order of heaven) directed at Uzair, saying, “Go to the priest, Liyulik, for he is the one who will explain to you the dream that you have seen.”

Uzair spoke to the priests: "Who will go to Liyulik to interpret the dream for you? Then they wrote a letter and handed it to the priest, Tabyumin. He took the letter and went to Liyulik, and he found him asleep in his bed, having not yet awakened.

A palpitation occurred in the heart of Liyulik that frightened him. Tabyumin approached Liyulik and began to shake him to wake him from his sleep. He handed him the letter and explained to him the full details of the dream, as I mentioned. Liyulik got up from his bed naked, cast dust on his head, and fetched the dream book.

He opened it and read it silently, and he wrote to the priests a letter explaining what he had read and reminding them that Enishbi would give birth to a son in Jerusalem. Woe to you, old and young! Woe to you, Torah teachers! John will be born in Jerusalem and will abide by baptism; he will be called a prophet in Jerusalem. He also wrote to them in his letter that the planet that landed on Elizabeth was a child appointed from the high heavens and given to Elizabeth.

As for the fire that was kindled in the door of the house of Zacharia, it was that John would be born in Jerusalem. Tabyumin took the message and headed towards the temple, where he found the priests all waiting for him. The letter was handed over to Eleazar. Eleazar opened the letter, read it silently, and knew what important words it contained. Then he handed it to Zacharias without reading its contents to the priests. Zacharia silently read it too and brought it back to Eleazar's hand.

Eleazar spoke and said to Elder Father Zecharia, "Elder Father, leave the town of Judea, lest a conflict arise in Jerusalem. Zacharia raised his right hand and hit Eleazar on the head and said to him, "O Azar, you great scholar, high priest of all, if you knew yourself, you wouldn't attempt to enter our church, and if you knew yourself, you wouldn't attempt to read the Torah. Your mother was a reckless woman who did not reform herself and did not enter the house of her father-in-law as a virgin, and your father did not have enough money to write a divorce document for her to rid himself of her.

Is there ever a day when we come to you without mentioning Musa, son of Imran? Is there ever a day when we come and do not arrive at your church? How do you mention something about me that you did not hear and did not make sure of? Who is the deceased who died and came back to life? That Enishbi should give birth to a son! Who is the blind person who opened his eyes? Who is the person whose leg was cut off and then put back on his body? Who is the dumb person who came back to talk and explain that you told me your wife would give birth to a son? Now twenty-two years have passed, and I have not had intercourse with my wife. If this happens, then it is not because of me and it is not because of you, and glory be to the One who has blessed me and blessed you.

All the priests got up and started talking to Elder Father Zacharia, saying to him, "Sit down and calm down, Elder Father Zacharia. May the calm of the good people possess you. If there were no dreams among the Jews and if there were no visions in Jerusalem, then what Moses mentioned becomes a lie.

The dream that we have seen will come true, and John will appear, abide by baptism, and be called a prophet in Jerusalem.

The elder father came out from behind them, and Eleazar followed him. Then he saw three lamps walking behind Zacharia, so he grabbed Zacharia by the hem of his robe and said to him, "O Elder Father, what is going before you and what is following you?"

The Elder Father said, "O Azar, great scholar, chief of all priests, the light that goes before me, I do not know for whom it guards; and the fire that follows me, I do not know for whom it is. It is not my job, and it is not your job, that Enishbi will give birth to my son.

All the priests got up and started talking to Elder Father Zacharia, saying to him, "Elder Father, rest yourself and have a family, for a son from the highest heaven has been created and granted to you in your old age."

He will be born and abide by baptism; he will be known as a prophet in Jerusalem; we will be baptized in his name and signed with his pure sign.

We will take from him the holy bread (Bahtha) and the potion of blessed water (Mambuha). And we will ascend through him to the realm of light.

All the priests got up and started talking to Elder Father Zacharia, saying to him, "We will tell you about your origin and your fathers, from whom you were born. You are from the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Musa, son of Imran, and from the family tree of these: Beni Amin, Rishi, Baziri, Zaki, Zakuni, Ramesh, Maherman, Rabin, Judah, Zerab, Razi, those who built the priests’ hall, Hani and Hanani, as well as the one who wrote the Torah, who is called Tus the Great (Tus Raba).

Likewise, Ram and Ishmael and Tabyumin, as well as Berechi (Berechiah) of your forefathers, and you, O Elder Father. Each of them had a son in their old age who became a prophet in Jerusalem. If a prophet comes from you, you will be attributed to the lineage of prophets, and John will receive revelation and be called a prophet in Jerusalem.

Eleazar spoke and said to Elder Father Zacharia: "If John abides by baptism, then I will be his servant; I will be baptized in his name; I will be signed with his pure sign; I will take from him the holy bread (Behtha) and drink from him a potion of the water (Mambuha); and through him I will ascend to the realm of light."

The Elder Father spoke, saying to all the priests, "If a son is born from the highest heaven, what would you do in Jerusalem? Indeed, they brought the fetus from the waters of Paradise and implanted it within the womb of Elizabeth.

May the living God purify you, and may every being that comes to this place be purified.

The Babylonian Princess Miriai (first story)

In the names of the great living God. Glory be to his exalted and sublime light.

I am Miriai, the daughter of the king of Babylon. The daughter of one of the great leaders of Jerusalem, I was born of a father and a mother who were sinful Jews (Yahutai), and I was raised by the priests who used to take me in their chariot to the temple, the weak house that Adonai gave them to sweep and clean. In that house, there is no stability, there is nothing to support the poor, and there is no human kindness, which causes me aches in my hands and arms. My father went to the meeting house, and my mother went to the temple. My father went and said to me, and my mother went and forewarned me, saying, close your inner door and lock the padlocks. Beware that you go to the great market and have the rays of the sun of the Lord fall on you.

I, Mariai, did not hear what my mother told me, nor did what my father warned me about reach my ears. I opened the inner door and went outside. I locked the door and went out to the big market, and the sun's rays fell on me. I wanted to go to the house of the nation (the meeting house) of the Yahutai, but the road took me to the house of worship for the Mandaeans. I entered and found my brothers and sisters (in belief) standing, reading religious lessons; my brothers studying lessons; and my sisters reciting religious hymns.

Because of the sayings in their lessons and in their hymns, I fell asleep in my place. My brothers went and did not wake me, and my sisters went and did not move me. You were my sister in the covenant, and you had to wake me from my sleep and say, "Get up, Miriai," before the dawn breaks and the early cock crows. Before the sun rises and spreads its light on the world, and before the priests of the Jews and their sons go out and sit in the alleys of the ruins of Jerusalem, and before your worldly father comes and attaches to you a charge that you did not commit, I, Miriai, hid the prayer book and the hymn book before the time of dawn and before the early cock crows. Before sunrise and before light shines on the world.

The priests of the Jews and their sons went out and sat in the alleys and ruins of Jerusalem. My worldly father came to me and attached an accusation to me that I did not commit and said, "Where did you come from, you adulterous bastard, and how did you get out if you did not come near the chains and padlocks? Where did you come from, you raging dog, if you did not come near the chains and padlocks? Where did you come to me? You tattered piece of cloth that has stained our garment and offended my reputation. She said, "If I am an adulterous bastard, then take off the locks of your house, and if I am a raging dog, cut the chains and fetters off of me, and if I am a tattered piece of cloth that stains your garment, then remove me from it."

The father said," Come to watch Miriai, who left the Jewish law and loved the Lord of the Mandaeans. Come to watch Miriai, who left the colored clothes and dyes following the Mandaean teachings. She left gold, silver, adornment, and beauty, and she loved the turbaned man."

Miriai told him, "I don't hate a lover. I don't hate a father who loves his daughter, and I do not abandon my great living Lord, who has given me strength and support in this world and who will take my hand to the realm of light."

Let dust be in the mouths of the Yahutai (sinful Jews) and ashes in the mouths of all the priests, and the ruins that are under the horses' feet will be the portion of the mighty and arrogant leaders in Jerusalem.

May the living God purify you, and may every being that comes to this place be purified.

The Babylonian Princess Miriai (second story)

I am Miriai, the vine and the towering tree standing at the source of the Euphrates. The leaves of the tree are precious stones, and the fruits of the tree are pearls. The branches of the vine are rays, and its leaves are a radiant light. Perfume flowed into the tree and spread to all worlds, making them fragrant. The birds of the sky spread out and settled on the tree, to build their nests and to settle in and enjoy, not to mate. From its branches, they eat food, and from its inside, they drink refreshing drinks. Their food does not run out, and their drink is not wine.

After the birds settled on the tree, winds and storms came that shook the trees and brought down the weak birds, so they fell and crashed into the tree, causing the leaves to fall off.

The birds fled from their places, except for a portion of them that remained and did not flee because they grabbed the tree with their claws and wings until the winds and storms passed. But there are those that did not hold on, so they disappeared after those storms subsided.

Woe to those who are not patient and do not believe, and from the tree they fly and flee, and blessed are those who cling and remain steadfast.

So beautiful is the tree of life and the beautiful birds that clung to its branches and endured the passage of winds and storms, so happiness came back to the world, and the birds got back to singing and building their nests to settle on the tree.

A white eagle descended, gazed, and saw the birds. He hovered, then landed on them, flapping his wings, and settled on the tree. The birds spoke to him and said to him, "By your life, eagle, you came to us."

How strong were the winds that stormed us? There were strong storms that uprooted the trees and shook us until they plucked out the feathers of our wings. There are those who have clung and resisted the winds and storms, and they did not fall off, and there are those who flew and fled.

We speak to you, eagle, and we urge you to keep these birds as long as you hover in the air and see everything that happens on the ground.

These birds, my brothers, are tired of winds and storms, so what do you do for them? The eagle said ,"I will explain the scene to you, my brothers. These birds, it happened that the shocks drove them away from me and damaged the wings that lift them up. Their wings were plucked out, and they were humiliated, so they took refuge in the grass. Bats and hawks attacked them, ripping their meat and devouring the fat birds among them. Woe to those who become as nasty as the polluted water. They are the followers of darkness."

Blessed are you, O birds, who withstood on this vine and became a power for Miriai—the vine at the source of the Euphrates.

Listen and know, O birds, that I have come near you, my brothers, to strengthen your position in the earthly world and to make you a place of settlement on earth.

I came to reassure Miriai, to heal her with a dose of water, and to take care of the families residing on the highlands of the Euphrates River.

Miriai said, "I will carry the water in a white vessel to water my good seedlings, my good sons, and I will sacrifice and carry it in my arms for that light that shone."

I will sacrifice, suffer, and serve water. So blessed is he who drinks from this water, for he will be healed and happy, and his family will thrive. Those who drank from this water bore good fruits after their branches embraced and the trees blossomed. As for those who do not drink  this water, they will bring forth toxins and gallstones.

Woe to those who do not follow the path that I walk; woe to those who do not overcome obstacles, for they will lose eternal life (Simat Hei, mother of the angels).

The angel said, "My brothers, stand firm and abide by the honorable covenant. Be a voice for Miriai. Be a strength for Miriai."

May the words of the great living God be chanted and exalted throughout all the world to shake and awaken the sleepers.

The eagle flew from the tree, then turned and performed the prayer of mercy, then said, "Hear my words, my brothers. Persevere and endure the torment; be supporters of Miriai; be a strength for Miriai, for she is honest and faithful.

Woe to the great scholar Uzair, who supports the wicked in Jerusalem. Woe to the mayor, Zatan, who has falsely testified to Miriai.

A large number of educated Yahutai (sinful Jews), old and young, gathered and went to Miriai, saying to each other, "Miriai is a woman who broke away from the priests, fell in love with a man, shook hands with him, and held their hands, then went and settled on the highlands of the Euphrates. We demand to kill Miriai after she is flogged in Jerusalem."

We will put up a gallows for the man who corrupted Miriai and made her leave her religion. He who entered Jerusalem in disguise will not let him live another day on earth.

Annulment of the covenant and the praise of Jurasalem's dove

The Yahutai (sinful Jews) gathered all of them and went to Miriai, where they found that a chair had been erected for her on the highlands of the Euphrates, a white flag had been fixed in front of her, and a sacred religious book had been placed in her bosom, with which she read aloud, to which the whole world would be humbled.

She was holding the religious stick in her hand (the pole) and was bound by a religious belt (Hamyana) around her waist. She converted to the Mandaean religion and sang heavenly hymns; all people were humbled; the fish gathered in the river and the birds flew from the source of the Euphrates to hear the sayings of Miriai; nobody got drowsy nor fell asleep.

Miriai cared nothing for the world, and the air was perfumed around her with good smells, so when the Jews saw that, they clenched their fists, struck the front of their chests, and wept.

Miriai's mother spoke, with her tears flowing like brooks, and she said to Miriai, "Look at me, for I am your mother, and you are my daughter, and the daughter of the chiefs of the great court of Jerusalem. Do you not remember a souvenir, Miriai? The Torah was in your bosom; you opened it and read it. And you found in it what guided you. I put these external keys in your hand, and the internal house keys are put back in the box.

The priests and their sons came with me to kiss your hands. If you wish, open the door for them; if you do not wish, they will go and return to their place. A thousand people were standing, and two thousand of them were sitting, bowing their heads to you like effeminate slaves, waiting for a word from you to return to Jerusalem. Why did you forget your brothers, and why did your mind turn away from the priests?

Do you not see that the young women weep in the land of Judah as well as the men and women in Jerusalem? The women took off their gold and bowed with all their hearts out of love for you and said, "We will not spend our money until Miriai comes, and we will melt the jewels that have troubled us." Then they threw the precious silk garments into their boxes.

They are standing on the rooftops of houses and praying to see you in Jerusalem, and they made vows wishing that you would come back with me and stay near us.

My daughter, come with me, roam the city of Jerusalem, and hang your bell, for no bell has sounded since the day you left. Leave this man and get rid of him, for he is the one who exposed you and took you away, as he is not from your country. Come and leave him in his world; we will not be held responsible if you return to your home land with me.

Come, teach the children to write and read, and rewrite the Torah on leatherette paper. The day you take it, the dust will be sweet, and the cups will dance and come to your bosom and hear your words. When Miriai heard these words, she laughed with her chest before her mind and said, "They were not Yahutai (sinful Jews), but bad, vain priests. Those who stood and worshipped the domes and temples were not faithful Jews and would be cast into the realm of darkness."

Then she said to them, " Go, you polluted lunatics. You were not from us nor our people, just as I was not a woman who left for the unbelievers. I did not love a man to marry him, and I did not leave to return to you and meet you in the temple of evil. Go away and get out of my face, as you have testified against me falsely and slanderously. You accused me of adultery and theft, and you accused me of what you did.

Blessed be He who delivered me from captivity and placed my feet here. I did not commit adultery with him, nor did I commit theft in this world.

The testimony that you testified against me turned to prayers and praises that strengthened and educated me and made me, Miriai, a pious priestess on the highlands of the Euphrates River. A pure eagle came, whose wings covered the world, and flew over the Yahutai (sinful Jews), and drew them with his wings, bound their legs, and carried them away to the swamps in which the rotten ones float.

He dipped them into the water to become food for the swamp's animals, then he plunged their ships into the ends of the waterways to swallow them up. He destroyed the temple of the Lord and set fire to Jerusalem, and he cast upon the people a veil of suffocating mist to destroy those who had killed the clergy (Tirmidhi) in Jerusalem.

The bird came down near Miriai and spread its wings for her. Then he asked and inquired of her, advised her, and established the pledge of sincerity for her, and he gave her a strong hug, carried her, and returned her to her chair. Then he said to her, "Look at me, the good creature, and mention me in the presence of the great living God. I am a faithful messenger who came to you. I am the being who responded to your request and asked you for an ovenant as pure as running water.

Then Miriai said to him, "O good Ethra, the Ethra that the great living God has sent to us. Your light and your radiance have shone in the realm of light. Whoever follows your words will return to the pure world in the joy of eternal life, and his insight will be twice as sharp. And whoever does not hear your words will lose his stability and dignity."

We pray for the Yahutai (sinful Jews) to be enslaved and for all the priests and their sons to be servile slaves. As for you, Ethra, and me and you, brothers, we will unite and ascend in peace to the realm of light.

May the living God purify you.

The forty-sixth chapter of Yahya's book, peace be upon him

A call comes from the messenger of the great living God.

A call comes from the messenger of the great living God. A call from the great living God. The messenger of the great living God calls and preaches to people, saying, Everyone should keep himself. Blessed is he who is mindful of himself and directs his thoughts in the direction of righteousness. Blessed are the righteous who ascend to the realm of light. Woe to the person who counsels others but does not counsel himself. Woe to the one who crosses the roads without first making a good path for himself to walk on safely.

Woe to the mason who does not construct a good structure for his afterlife. Woe to the envious eyes that wish evil on the people in this world. Woe to the big belly, which is never satisfied no matter how much it is fed. Woe to the person who has two tongues and pronounces two judgments on the same matter. Woe to the ignorant people who are taught yet do not learn. Woe to the idiots who do not seek wisdom for themselves.

Woe to the wise if no one benefits from his wisdom. Woe to the rulers who pronounce harsh judgments and do not execute justice; they will be thrown into the blazing hellfire while counting coals with their hands and blowing the flames with their lips. Woe to the evil mind that has been dominated by evil and gripped by hatred; it will vanish as the world vanishes and will perish and not enter the realm of light.

Blessed are those who do good deeds, and woe to those who do evil. Woe to the person who receives money, but no one benefits from it or from his food because he commits sins for himself and for his afterlife.

Blessed is he who has been given sustenance, and people have benefited from his food. He has done good deeds for himself, and his good deeds will be noted for him in the hereafter. His good deeds will come to pass before him, paving the way for him to reach the realm of light. If your hands work sincerely, you will ascend and see the realm of light.

May the living God purify you.

The first speech of the Prophet John, peace be upon him

The Prophet John receives a robe of light from the Great Living God.

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night. John teaches his disciples and says, " In the name of the Creator Anur, the divine being who appointed me, through whose praises my soul is purified and kept away from disgraceful and irreparable deeds."

The underworld's angels questioned me, saying, "In whose power have you repented? And with whose praise have you gained knowledge?

I responded, "With the power of the Creator, I have repented, and with the praises of the divine being who has chosen me, I have gained knowledge. I have not come to have a home among the Jews, and I have not come to set a throne for myself in Jerusalem. I have not come to receive wreath offerings, and I have not succumbed to temptations. I am not used to tolerating imperfection, and I am not a drinker. I do not like eating for my body, and I do not envy anyone who does. I have not stopped the night prayers or abandoned the pure running water, as I still adhere to baptism and the holy religious ceremonies.

I have not forgotten Sunday and its beginning, as I have not forgotten Shelmi and Nedbi (the two angels who maintain the running water), who dwell in the house of perfection, where they purify and educate people and raise them without defect or blemish. When John made these statements, the Great Living God praised him for them from beginning to end, and the angels of the underworld greeted him and prostrated themselves before him, saying to him, "Not one of the statements you have made came as a falsehood. There is no voice like yours; it is tender and sweet. The speech that comes out of your mouth is enjoyable, and the words that you say are reverent."

A robe of light was given by the Eternal Great God to Adam, the first man (the chief of the first round), and a robe of light was given from the Eternal God to the man Ram (the chief of the second round), and a robe of light was given from the Eternal God to the man Shorby (the chief of the third round), and a robe of light was given from the Eternal God to Sam, the son of Noah (the chief of the fourth round).

O John, a robe of light will be granted to you from the eternal living God when you ascend to the afterlife and when the abandoned house of work is ascended through you.

Everyone who has been purified will be near you in the realm of light, but those who have not been purified will be held accountable.

May the living God purify you.

The second speech of the Prophet John, peace be upon him

The angel of the sun brings a crown of light for the Prophet John (peace be upon him).

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night.

John teaches his disciples and gives his distinctive heavenly talk. The angel of the sun was in his halo, and the angel of the moon was in his orbit. One by one, the four winds of the earth stopped blowing and stood still. The angel of the sun spoke and said to John in Jerusalem, "I have brought for you a crown with three haloes of light, each as radiant as the light that is sent to the earthly world. I have prepared for you a ship that goes here in running water, just as I have prepared for you a great boat that goes here in the waters. So when you go to the eternal abode, mention this in the presence of the Lord."

John spoke and said to the angel of the sun in Jerusalem, "You are the halo of light, and your request will not be forgotten. Your crown's light will be kept by perfect guards, and this ship of shining splendor and its boat have been prepared to go through the waters."

In the end, the angel praised John and said to him, "The woman who enters your law and goes to the brothel to commit adultery, then approaches her legal husband to have children, will not get what she wishes, and after she departs from this life, she will not deserve to be directed towards the eternal abode and will not reside in the place of perfection.

Glory be to the great living God.

The third speech of the Prophet John

Enishbi (Elizabeth) talks about John.

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night. John teaches his disciples and says, "I am not alone; I go somewhere and come back. Who is the prophet who attained my status? And who studied like my studies and spoke like my heavenly sayings?

When John stated these words, the two women, Miriai and Enishbi (Elizabeth), wept, and their tears streamed down, and they replied, "We pass away, but you live, so protect us; so that we do not face difficulties during the ascension in the sky; we depart, but you remain; so protect us, lest torment befall us.

John spoke and said to Enishabi (Elizabeth) in Jerusalem, "When I ascend through heaven and pass through the eternal abode, you are the one who redeems me. If you want to ransom me, bring your money and ransom me. If you want to ransom me, bring your jewelry and ransom me. If you want to ransom me, bring your gold and ransom me. Enishbi spoke and said to John in Jerusalem, "Who could attain your status among the Jews, and who could achieve your position in Jerusalem that I should ask him for help while I forget you?"

Who could be like me and have the blessing of someone you care for? You declared and said to me, "Through my words and the teachings of my book, I nullified the Torah in Jerusalem. Because of my hymns and the utterances of my supplications, the readers stopped chanting in Jerusalem. The sinners left their immorality, and the women quit dating the wicked. The brides, while they were in their wedding wreaths, came to me with their tears falling to the ground. The fetus in its mother's womb heard my words and cried. The merchants ceased their trade among the Jews, and the fishermen ceased their hunting in Jerusalem."

The women of the Children of Israel left wearing dyed-colored clothes. Young women refrained from wearing gold jewelry. The women did not put on their scarves. These women and men did not adorn themselves and did not look at their faces in the mirror. And you also said, "Because of my words and the teachings of my book, the waves of water rose like pillars, and because of my words and the teachings of my book, the fish saluted me."

Because of my sayings and the teachings of my book, the birds spread their wings, prostrated themselves, and said, "Blessed are you, O John, and blessed is the divine being to whom you prostrate. O, John, you have been chosen and purified, and free of sins, you will leave the earthly world. Women could not seduce you with their charms and words, nor could they attract you with their perfumes and smiles. You have never drunk wine, and the remembrance of your Lord has never ceased in your mind. You are blessed and purified, and your chair is forever located in the house of eternal life."

May the living God purify you.

The fourth speech of the Prophet John

A call from heaven commands people to repent and do righteous deeds.

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night. While John was teaching his disciples, a call came from heaven to the earthly world, saying, "O you who are racing to do evil deeds, repent and do good deeds to prepare a path for your hereafter. O you who take usury, give it up to find a way to your hereafter. O you who sleep in fragrant wreaths, wake up and prepare a way for your hereafter. O you who wear bright clothes and silk, get up and make a way for your hereafter.

O you who sleep with beautiful wives, rise to the prayer, so that you may find a way for your hereafter. We have noticed the sons of the true believers (Bahiri Zadqa) leaving the earthly world without having read the words of the great living God in the world. Despite the supplications of ascension (Masiqta), they did not help the deceased attain the aura of light. Although the baptism ceremonies were conducted, they were not accepted as part of the heavenly rituals.

When John stated these words, Yaqif, Benjamin, and Miriai spoke and said to John in Jerusalem, "O, John, we adjure you by the great living God to whom you prostrate. As we adjure you by the savior (Habshaba) and by his birth day and honorable name. Since when do the sons of true believers leave for the afterlife without having read the words of the great living God? How could it be that the supplications of ascension do not help the deceased attain the aura of light? Since when are the baptism ceremonies not accepted as part of the heavenly rituals?"

When Yaqif, Benjamin, and Miriai said this, John spoke to them and said in Jerusalem, "There will come a time when John's disciples will be killed by the Children of Israel (Jacob). Then, some time later, Muhammad the Arab will be born from the descendants of Ishmael, and he will call people to believe in and prostrate themselves before the Great Living God. In the last round of the end times, there will be fewer righteous believers, and stability and peace will vanish from the world."

There will be fewer Mandaean houses of worship (Meshkini), marriage ceremonies and celebrations will change, as will the baptism (Masbata) and the ascension ceremonies (Masqita). At that time, husbands will sleep with their wives during the postpartum month. Evil, lying, and corruption will spread, and murder will increase in the world. I implore you, O pure ones, to refrain from doing evil deeds, lest you descend into darkness, and that you worship sincerely our one and only Lord, the King of the Sublime Light, whose name is praised.

The fifth speech of the Prophet John

Prophet John preaches to women.

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night. John teaches his disciples and says, "Keep up the prayer, my brothers. Beware, my brothers, of the machinations of women. All plots could be stopped, and all sins could be forgiven. Except for the machinations of women, because they last for thousands of years without being nullified.

The woman who becomes defiled and does not regain her purity by swimming in water will be swallowed up by a dark mountain. She who is defiled and does not regain her purity will not cross the great, deadly sea. Whoever defiles herself and does not purify herself will be given torn underwear. The female who defiles herself and does not purify herself will have dead children born to her, and heaven and earth will curse her because she has polluted the pure waters and revealed hidden secrets. The sun and the moon will curse her with an evil curse. When you sleep with your wives, wash yourselves with water. Wash your heads first, then pour water on your body. If you miss a single dry hair on your head, your purification will not be accepted, as it is water that cleans us in this world.

May the living God purify you.

The sixth speech of the Prophet John

Rid yourselves of the works of the earthly world and get married.

John teaches his disciples in the evening of the night. John teaches his disciples and says, "I was in my isolation house. I have neither changed, twisted, nor allowed evil thoughts to enter my mind. I did not commit to their work or walk on their path. I read and explained to you the prayers you should keep in this world.

Brothers, do not change or twist, as I do not accept lies from you. Save yourselves from the works of the earthly world and from this false abode. First examine the woman, then marry. Do not marry an immoral woman, for a burning fire will consume you. The woman who sleeps with her husband and does not cleanse herself will wear torn underwear. A woman who sleeps with her husband and does not purify herself will give birth to dead children. The woman who sleeps with her husband and does not purify herself will be cursed by heaven and earth because she has polluted pure water and revealed hidden secrets, and the sun and the moon will cast a severe curse upon her.

O chosen ones, my brothers, save yourselves in this false abode. When you sleep with your wives, adhere to purity and cleanse yourselves. Start washing from the top of your head and then your body. If you miss a single dry hair on your head, your purification will not be accepted.

My brothers, spare yourselves from the machinations of women. All intrigues could be undone, and all impurities could be cleansed, except for the schemes devised by women, for they remain for thousands of years without having been overturned.

May the living God purify you.
